Paloren, also known as Albizia saman or the rain tree, has become quite the favorite in our backyard for its broad, umbrella-like canopy. Ours is about 15 years old now, and during hot summers, its ferny leaves provide the best shade for picnics. What's fascinating is how the leaves close up at night and open with the morning light. It also produces these pink puffball flowers that smell faintly sweet, though the long brown seed pods can be a bit messy to clean up.
